The core of the HLUC11 demonstration is based on two distinct engagement strategies: i) Comfort-oriented engagement strategies in smart homes; ii) Energy feedback as part of a social network (to be applied to 20 to 200 residential consumers). Customers were invited to manage their consumption so that the grid could overcome any technical constraints. Despite being an innovative concept, Portuguese demo results are still below expectations when compared to the Swedish demo results. This may be explained by cultural differences where Portuguese people still lack incentives and engagement measures to become more participative in such social energy networks.
