Integrid - Bridging the Gap

27 243 customers involved +50 directly Samouco and São Francisco (Alcochete) The Alcochete demonstrator involved the areas of Samouco and São Francisco, both urban areas in the Alcochete municipality, a town in the Lisbon metropolitan area, covering 716 low voltage customers. This area features neighbourhoods of single houses as well as neighbourhoods with apartments, ensuring a good diversity of customers with different house load profiles and energy consumption patterns. Inside this demonstration area, the DSO not only has flexibility provided by the end customers through flexible assets connected to the house energy management system (HEMS), but also a flexible streetlight system that can contribute with voltage shifts at the secondary substation busbar. Valverde (Évora) Valverde is a small rural village outside Évora, the first Portuguese smart city in the National InovGrid Project, with a population of 450, all connected to the LV grid. Valverde was also the location chosen for the Horizon 2020 SENSIBLE project, because of which it already has many flexibility assets in place such as LV grid storage systems, residential storage systems, 241 customers with PV panels installed and fully implemented GPRS smart metering systems. All these attributes made this village a natural choice for the InteGrid project. The demo covers 241 customers, with the majority playing an active role in the demonstration. Half had previously participated in the Sensible project. These customers are highly aware of energy issues and participate actively in home energy management. The Valverde low voltage grid also has three low voltage grid storage systems, one with 50 kVA capacity, able to work in islanding mode, and two 30 kVA units that provide support for grid balance and are a viable high- impact resource, in a flexibility approach to the electrical energy value chain.
