26 4. DEMONSTRATIONOF INTEGRATED FUNCTIONALITIES InteGrid was demonstrated based on three geographies so that replication could be assessed in complementary frameworks. Each demonstrator had its main driver, or focus: i) Portugal focused on MV and LV smartgrid operation, based on flexibility, enabling new energy services; the Slovenian demonstrator focused on a VPP concept for DER aggregation; iv) the Swedish demonstrator focused on the development of innovative customer engagement methodologies. A replication approach was followed in all cases; i) Sweden exported contextualized demand respond schemes to Portugal and Slovenia; ii) Portugal exported forecasting and grid management tools; iii) Slovenia exported the VPP concept. Portuguese demonstrator The Portuguese demo ran in different areas of Portugal. Mafra, covering the medium voltage demonstration, and Samouco, São Francisco (Alcochete), Valverde (Évora) and Caldas da Rainha, covering the low voltage and customer engagement demonstrations. The total number of customers impacted by the InteGrid project in all four demonstration areas was 14,844, where almost 200 customers were directly involved. Mafra The Mafra HV/MV primary substation, 30 minutes north from Lisbon, was chosen to be the focus of the MV Use Case because it offers well-balanced characteristics to implement and complete the proposed objectives for this Use Case. Characteristics included: i) High penetration of DER in the MV grid (a total of 14 MW of installed power divided between windfarms and biogas turbines); ii) A diverse industrial ecosystem to enhance the possibility of having enough flexibility to contribute to the project; iii) A mixture of loads and feeder types (rural vs urban grids) with more than 12k customers fed by this grid; iv) A municipality which embraces and supports innovation projects; v) Existing challenges in controlling the voltage profile due to DER location on the MV Grid; vi) Connects WRRF of AdTA InteGrid partner.
