Figure 4.28 – Overview of the centralized control system in the primary substation at Kyrkviken. 52 SMART GRID CASES OF USE HLUC03 Predictive Maintenance The the main result for HLUC03 is a predictive maintenance environment capable of diagnosing the condition of dry transformers (MV/LV). As shown in Figure 4.29, the tool developed leverages sensor and operational data to diagnose these condition of these assets. More specifically, sensor data refers to the active load of dry transformers, which is then used to measure state of degradation, namely the aging rate and the loss of working life. As a result, utilities DM can adjust the use of such assets to extend useful life and fully use this equipment. Another relevant result of HLUC03 is the capability to describe each dry transformer’s probability of failure (Pof), as well as the remaining useful life (RUL) based on the aging rate and operational data. With these two indicators (PoF and RUL), it is possible to forecast maintenance work and prevent unplanned outages. However, more assets than just dry transformers need to be included in the predictive maintenance tool to increase the value of predictive maintenance. In collaboration with SAP, INESC TEC and EDPD, additional assets to be considered will depend on the availability of data and support maintenance planner requirements. Figure 4.30 provides results from a workshop and shows a list of hot assets that would be interesting to target for predictive maintenance. Circuit breakers have been added to the predictive maintenance tool. The results look promising with algorithms for failure rate based on functional tests from Ellevio. More development is needed before the tool can be implemented in daily operations.
