KEY DEVELOPMENTS IN THE PROJECT The results of the Cases of Use described in Section 2 served as the basis for identifying the innovative technologies (software tools and hardware) that were developed, improved and demonstrated under the project. Business Domain: Grid Operations Flexibility Management in MV Distribution Grids Concept: Short-term management of DERs by the DSO to solve grid constraints and optimize MV network operation. As internal flexibility-based actions (management of DSO-owned equipment, such as on-load tap changer, capacitor banks and potential energy storage) may not be sufficient tomeet technical requirements, the use of external flexibility (fromDERs and industrial and commercial consumers, etc.) is considered within the operational planning of the MV network. Load and generation forecasts are additional inputs to planned control actions. As time goes by, more reliable forecasts along with the current state of the resources will be used to update the plan. The control set-points computed for non-DSO resources will be considered as “reserved” flexibility that can be later activated based on real-time information on technical constraints. Software Function: Load and renewable energy forecasting for MV and LV grids Short-description: Combines weather and load measurements information to produce hours-ahead and day-ahead probabilistic forecasts of active and reactive consumption for HV/MV and MV/LV substations, HV, MV and LV consumers. The RES forecasting module uses information from a grid of weather forecasts with advanced feature engineering techniques to produce point and probabilistic forecasts for up to 3-days ahead. Innovative features: • Improvement of forecasting skill through the combination of statistical and deep learning methods • Joint forecast of active and reactive power in MV/LV substations.
