With regard to software integration, focus was given to tools which allow active grid management at the MV level and run as a supporting tool for all remaining elements: the VPPs, DSO tool and for TLS. With respect to the LV demo, all the flexible devices were integrated into the aggregation platform, the VPP. The unique factor is that these devices can be connected to both kinds of VPPs, both with regard to activations as well as principles of integration. At the MV level, Elektro Ljubljana invited pre-selected real grid users to participate: those with potential flexibility and where their connection to the grid involved voltage drops or branch overload when there was a significant change in their consumption. As shown in figure 4.24, external tools and server infrastructure are provided by the project partners. Internal infrastructure consists of the servers and the smart grid management tools. The demo has two VPPs and both are pictured as an external system. In the case of the commercial VPP, this external tool is owned by an aggregator and allows market-based services to be provided. In the case of the technical VPP, it is less important whether it is placed outside or inside the DSO environment, what is more important is that it can support the distribution system operator with flexibility activation.
