The results of HLUC09 and HLUC11 are supported by KPIs, calculated with data collected from HEMS and Smart Meters (SM): • Optimization of home energy by managing controllable devices in an automated fashion and according to user comfort preferences; • Interconnection between users and marketplace for flexibility trading; • User engagement. SM Data HEMS collects information on customer interactions with the app and appliances gm-hub Figure 4.19 – Demonstration diagram for HLUC09. 38 This information can be provided by two methods: a) a flexibility matrix where the WRRF answers to DSO; b) data-driven approach that calculates the upward and downward flexibility of pumping stations. For demand response strategy implementation, the following solution was developed. This solution integrates an FTP (File Transfer Protocol) server that connects flexibility requests by the DSO, the real-time WRRF energy consumption (measured by an RTU energy meter) and the available flexibility (flexibility matrix). The FTP Server is able to load the negative and positive flexibility available (Flexibility matrix) which is in AQUASAFE through time series (txt files), and to send the flexibility requests by the DSO. In such cases, an SMS is sent to the operator (Figure 4.18) and the operator will then turn equipment on/off or increase/decrease planned VFD equipment in the flexibility matrix. KPI calculation The following metrics were then calculated as a result of the HLUC08 demonstration. KPI results are summarised and a brief description is provided. HLUC08 has two different demonstrations: Energy optimization with dynamic tariffs and reserve prices (KPI 1 and KPI 2) and Demand Response under emergency grid operation (KPI 4). KPI 1 and KPI 2 were updated with data from June to August 2020. Despite the similar results with KPI 1, KPI 2 was lower. The principal reason is the much lower volume dealt with at the Alcântara WRRF, mainly due to the beginning of the holidays, but also because of the pandemic (5% lower on average when compared to 2019).
